Ida Liu definitely has her own signature style. Renown as a top woman in finance and banking, she’s also a woman-in-leadership fashion icon. She’s been interviewed by Deepak Chopra. Rang the NASDAQ bell. She’s a finance media personality. A wife and mother, she always looks perfectly polished and put together in diamonds and high heels from her office to the streets of New York City.
How do I know all these things about Ida Liu? We’re old friends since Wellesley College. Both wearing Tahari suits when we interviewed for our first jobs in investment banking straight out of college. However, I decided to give myself the title of Managing Director at the age of 25 when I became a fashion entrepreneur, and she went on to work in fashion for a bit before going back to finance!
Honestly, I don’t really understand the media’s fascination with the fact that Ida went from finance to fashion, and back into finance. She’s one of the most intelligent women I know. She’s not the only Asian American woman with an Ivy League education to go from finance to fashion. There’s also the CEO of Stitch Fix, Katrina Lake. Just a tad younger than Ida Liu, she started her career in finance. And Katrina Lake’s net worth tetters between $146 million – $1 billion (depending on the day) as the CEO of an online personal shopping service. #professionalgoals
Both San Francisco natives, the two could not be more different in personal style.

2) Ida Liu always wears designer high heels and designer bags. Actually, she wears designer everything, from her shoes, bags, suits, dresses, and jewelry. She’s a fashion icon in fashion labels.
3) And lastly, Ida is always perfectly groomed. From her pristine haircut, flawless makeup, and polished nails, she embodies female executive presence and professional presence. She taught me how to she keeps her lipstick on when we were at Wellesley interviewing for banking jobs. Dabbing her lips with Mac Studio Fix first, she then applies regular lipstick on top. It’s not even long-wear lipstick and it lasts the whole day!

If you think it’s easy to dress Ida, it’s not! From San Francisco, New York, to Milan, she’s been a Sterling Style Academy practice client case study and she’s so picky! She dresses herself perfectly, always projecting a professional image. So, if you’d like to emulate her professional image and style, feel free to shop these looks below.
Finding these looks was as hard as shopping for her in real life! For Ida, I would prefer to find a Dolce & Gabanna dress that had a higher neckline to wear under blazers. Regarding the Prada dress, she may only like it for casual and not for work since it has the logo at the neckline. However, if it didn’t have the logo it would be perfect under the Saint Laurent jacket which she would probably prefer in a jewel tone color unless it was a black and white weave. Ida also likes Bottega Veneta totes bags, however I couldn’t find the one she has. As I said before, she truly has her own unique signature style.
However, if I was going to dress a prominent private banker other than her, I would select these vintage Chanel looks if she wanted to project status and prestige.
