Teddy coats are definitely still in style in 2021. In fact, they are in highest demand in the UK and then in Mongolia! However if you’re wondering what other winter coats are in style in 2021, check out our puffer coat blog.
Max Mara first launched this teddy coat trend in 2013 when the designer presented a long brown fuzzy coat made of alpaca and mohair on the runway. Even 7 years later, it’s still hard to find the Max Mara Teddy Coat on sale.
However, to be honest with you, Zara didn’t start making this coat until the winter of 2018. Therefore if it wasn’t being mass produced by Zara, it wasn’t that big of a trend until now! Thankfully these days the coat is made in other colors too because if you’re not a fan of tan, then the teddy coat is not for you! These days you’ll find many Teddy coats in winter white as it’s trending for the season; and we don’t see that trend going away. Other brands that make in-demand teddy coats are Zara, H&M, Forever 21, French Connection, and Nordstrom.
Since winter 2018, the teddy coat has been re-created from the original Max Mara design and sold for prices ranging from $50-$4250, so teddy coats are definitely still in style in 2021. Usually a fashion trend is seven years. However since the coat has only been largely popular in the last three years, we give it four more years until it goes out of style.
Sometimes Teddy coats are referred to as Sherpa coats. They are soft and furry in material, while a little bit rougher than classic faux fur jackets. Known for being cozy, we think they look best with casual attire from sweats, to jeans, to a dressed up casual look. We don’t really recommend wearing them with office attire, such a suiting, as the look is not harmonious for the occasion.
However if you’re a stay at home mom, or working from home these days and spending most of your time at home, a teddy coat is great coat to throw on to go to the grocery store or for any type of casual occasion.
We wouldn’t say that teddy coats are necessarily flattering, more so than trendy, cute, and cozy. If you’re trying to find a coat that will make you look slimmer, the teddy coat will have the opposite affect. So expect that it will make you look larger but that it’s meant to look this way because it’s an oversized casual, cozy look.
And what size should you buy in a teddy coat? Our answer is that it really depends on what you plan to wear inside of the coat. Sweaters, sweatshirts, and casual dresses in the last year run oversized, with bigger arm holes and sleeves, along with lots of details or ruffles in the front. Therefore if you buy a Teddy coat in your true-to-size fit, then the look might be a bit snug with a big sweater. However if you’re wearing relatively thin sweaters and shirts underneath the teddy coat, then buying your actual size should not be a problem.
Teddy coats are also meant to be very warm. Therefore if you live in a cold climate, we highly recommend these coats. Although these coats don’t seem as popular in the United States versus the UK for some reason. Nonetheless, you’ll see many High Street brands still featuring this coat. Perhaps Americans or other Europeans are not buying it as much because they are using their old coats, more classic style coats, or North Face. However we think teddy coats are perfect to go to the grocery store, or to the mall, to go to the gym, or for a casual dinner with family or friends.
As of November 2021, Teddy Coats are really popular in the United States. They are every where in the stores this Fall/Winter 2021.
So if you lead a casual lifestyle, we definitely recommend getting a teddy coat in 2021. Take advantage of these prices below and we definitely appreciate you shopping our suggestions! Stay warm and stay safe! The coat selection has been updated as of January 6, 2022.
