Looking for style for men 40s to 50s? At the end of Season 5 of Showtime’s Billions, Bobby Axelrod is on the run from legal issues and ends up in Switzerland. But this billionaire will sorely stick out in Geneva with his American luxury street style look unless he takes some advice from me, Personal Stylist Michelle T. Sterling. 😉
If you’ve been following my other Bobby Axelrod style blog, I know you love Bobby Axelrod’s clothes. And you may or may not know that Damian Lewis will not be returning to Billions in season 6! That said, Bobby Axelrod will be living in Switzerland indefinitely, so let’s fine-tune his style just a bit.
Bobby Axelrod from Yonkers, NY blends in, or rather makes a statement, among American billionaires. However regardless of how many billions he has left, if he wants to blend in Switzerland, he’s going to have to tweak his look.
So here are my style tips to makeover Bobby Axelrod’s clothes into a more refined yet still rugged billionaire in his 40s to 50s.
Bobby Axelrod Style 50 Year-Old Man Makeover Tip 1
Let’s start with his jackets. Now that he’s in Switzerland he should start wearing Barbour jackets or field jacket styles. The bomber jacket in Europe is more of a youthful look (20s – 30s) rather than one expected of a mature man in his 40s and 50s. If you’re American and are reading my style tips, the field jacket style is a perfect jacket for you if you live in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area, and all the states below it before Florida, as well as if you live in the Northeast, Midwest, or the South of the United States. However if you’re a casual American guy living in these areas and wear jeans, go for the bomber jacket options on this page.
Is a Barbour jacket popular? It’s a quality UK brand, classic style jacket that never goes out of style. Feel free to shop these jacket options below.
When you’re in your 40s and 50s, you want to elevate your classics and that’s how you develop a classy style.
What does it mean to elevate your classics? You need to start investing in a wardrobe that can carry you for the next 10 years and establish your own signature style. Because the style that you develop in your 40s and 50s will most likely carry you through the rest of your life. Seriously. When you shop our styled looks for men 40s to 50s, we are recommending investment clothes shopping – smart shopping. Buy better quality pieces that last you longer for sustainable style.
When you’re a man in your 40s and 50s, you finally look distinguished. This doesn’t mean that you look old! On the contrary, you may look more handsome with age. Seriously! So now it’s time for you to dress like a distinguished man.

So many young billionaires these days have their own signature style – the same-colored t-shirt daily with jeans and sneakers.
If you’re in finance and go into a 5-star establishment with anything less than a suit during the workweek in Europe, you will be frowned upon. It’s just not done. However, if it looks like you’re on holiday as an American in Switzerland, at least try to blend your casual style into a refined casual style of a wealthy man.
So here are some jacket options that would definitely make Bobby Axelrod look more polished and refined to blend with Europeans.
Bobby Axelrod Style for Men 40s to 50s Makeover Tip 2
Let’s change his footwear to go with that Barbour-style type of jacket. Let’s swap the Nike’s, New Balance, and Greats sneakers, and definitely opt for Hugo Boss, Golden Goose, and Saint Lauren sneakers that are already on this page.
These are subtly branded sneakers. Or he could wear the Zegna sneakers that my client is wearing to the left or right below. This makes a statement that he has a casual, classy style.
However, to really elevate his look, I would also recommend that Bobby Axelrod wear Loro Piana shoes. While he already wears their hoodies, he should also wear their boots for winter – like this French man in the picture below. Moreover, my client in this picture above is also wearing the Loro Piana Chelsea boots in brown. These shoes are extremely comfortable, and you’ll feel like you’re wearing slippers.
Incidentally, this French man also is wearing a field jacket. It looks like the Loro Piana one we posted above for $2488. This French man just got promoted to CEO of a major telecom company in France and he’s 43. Moreover, he already has an Audemars Piguet watch as well, like Bobby Axelrod. My client above is also 40. I recommended that he purchase the Audemars Piguet watch in 2019 before I even started watching Billions. Since the first time that he looked at it, Audemars Piguet watches have tripled in value. That’s a smart investment.
Bobby Axelrod Style for Men 40s to 50s Makeover Tip 3
Lastly, Europeans are wearing slim-fit pants these days regardless of age.
I would say it’s more about your physique than your age. If you’re a 40-year-old man in good shape or even in your 50s, you don’t need to wear baggy jeans. I know you don’t want to look old. You want to look modern without trying too hard.

AG and Rag & Bone are great jeans for men in their 40s and 50s. Their slim-fit jeans actually fit more like slightly relaxed or straight-leg jeans. These jeans are great if you have thicker, athletic legs or if you like a little room in your jeans. Since Bobby Axelrod is a fit man, he’s can wear slim-fit jeans rather than straight or slightly relaxed fit jeans. However you will see that he likes to wear his jeans with a bit more space than lean men in their 40s. However, please note, every man has different style preferences. You may want more space in your jeans or less space in the legs of your jeans. A modern cut these days are slim fit jeans for men. If you want a little more space, go for the AG or Rag & Bone jeans.
Slim fit doesn’t mean they are skintight. It means that the jeans are not baggy through the legs. See the fit of the jeans on the French man above. So, feel free to shop for these Hudson jeans, which my client is already wearing as well, to get the look. These are the best jeans for a 40-year-old man who is in good shape.

And no, I didn’t forget about his tops. He’s already wearing Loro Piana and Zegna sweaters along with my Tom Ford recommendations. These go perfectly with the suggested outfit tweaks that I made above. With these small tweaks, Bobby Axelrod’s look will go from New Yorker to a citizen of the world. With his new Swiss passport and private jet, he’ll look like an international, classy man of leisure.
